From Bare to Bountiful: 2 Thriving Beds

From Bare to Bountiful: 2 Thriving Beds

After a DIY season didn't return the yields my client was looking for, we collaborated on a planting plan to get the most out of their two existing raised beds. I started by manually testing and amending the soil, adding the right ingredients to get the texture and nutrients that would deliver results in our garden without non-organic additives. Structured around cool season and warm season planting windows, with a mix of seeds and starts, the beds had immediate color and texture, a combination of herbs, fruits, and veggies for six months of harvesting. These beds quickly grew lush from my client's diligent watering, perfect soil, great sunlight, and a seasonally aligned plan.

Two baren beds transformed into a productive work zone — harvesting fresh produce within weeks of planting, for months to come.

Fall Focused: Pumpkin, Beans & More

Fall Focused: Pumpkin, Beans & More

Using reclaimed wooden boxes sourced locally by my client, we built a fall garden focused on the classics - pumpkins, beans, squash and so many flowers. We customized a central tower to vertically grow mini pumpkins, adding height interest to the garden. Beans grew vigorously up trellises. Between the crops, coreopsis and asylum add bright pops of purples and oranges, getting the garden ready for spooky season. We timed the planting for a mid-summer install so everything would be ready for a full fall harvest.

A bountiful fall harvest of mini pumpkins and dried beans with lots of fall flowers — all from reclaimed materials that cost a fraction of new cedar.

Berry Barrels: Finetuned for High Yields

Berry Barrels: Finetuned for High Yields

At a daycare, berries are an essential food group! We found old oak wine barrels from a neighbor to set up 7 'Berry Barrels' filled to the brim with bushy raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries. This allowed us to keep them close to the fence, maximizing garden potential without worrying of chemicals from the street in their garden. We were also able to manage pH of the soil for the acid loving plants closely throughout the season. The final outcome look was also very aesthetically pleasing, especially as fall colors started to take hold as shown to the left.

Oak barrels filled with berry-producing plants offer privacy to the garden, maximize space, and close pH management for long-term yummy results.

Custom Raspberry Trellis

Custom Raspberry Trellis

This client had a long fence line and a dream of a raspberry hedge. We designed and built a custom post-and-wire trellis system scaled to their space, then planted a mix of summer and fall-bearing varieties to extend the harvest window. The trellis is built to allow easy pruning and can be expanded as the canes fill in. Knowing raspberry canes take off once established, we limited the number of initial plants to save money and prepare for more to come.

A productive raspberry hedge that produces two harvests per year — and looks beautiful doing it.

Integrated Family Garden Plan

Integrated Family Garden Plan

Designed for a family, this client sought a garden plan to help teach her young kids about the food cycle and healthy choices. We recommended two metal raised beds at an accessible height, and compiled a plant list and layout that prioritized easy to grow seeds, quick growth, and no cooking required for in garden nibbling. Every element was chosen to be low-maintenance, highly productive, and safe for curious little hands. The layout encourages the whole family to be involved in the growing process. Having a monthly check in allows to us to address questions about pests and disease and brainstorm fun ways to use the harvest with her kiddos.

A garden the whole family uses together — the kids check their bed for fresh veggies every morning before school.
